A Tech CEO Told Me Tech Workers Should Learn Skills Outside of Tech
As AI shakes up the tech teams, industry experience is a key differentiator
This isn’t the message tech folks want to hear, but tech skills have been devalued across the board.
Due to an unfortunate and maybe aggressive misunderstanding of AI, there’s no longer a need for smart people to put their hands on the keyboard. Their knowledge has, allegedly, been tokenized and is readily available for anyone to wield, as the rise of AI more often leads to the software developer’s demise.
In other words, let’s face it people, tech skills are out. They’re very much 2023.
They’re Barbenheimer.
But please note that I’m using the words “been devalued” and not “been made obsolete.”
I’ve been a technologist my whole life, and I’ve been on top of this topic for the better part of four years. Recently, I spent a good couple hours talking to one of my CEO colleagues about the tectonic shift in the way we develop new technology.
He’s got some good ideas about where those smart tech folks need to put their focus.
